How to create multiple Tukdas or Tihais from single Tihai

In this post I am going to show you how can you create multiple Tukdas / Tihais if you know at least one Tihai. This is one of the part I discovered while thinking about Tihai.

Before we dive, you need to know patterns of notes/bols for 1, 2, 3  . . . beats & basic mathematical ability of addition & subtraction of numbers.

Here is example of bol patterns of 2 beats

Example of bol patterns of 3 beats

We will need these patterns for creating multiple Tihais

Ok, now lets take very simple Tihai of taal Teentaal, we will create two more Tihais from this Tihai.

In above Tihai below four beats phrase is repeated three times with gap of 1 beat & of course ended with Dha

Lets derive first Tihai.

Step 1 : Subtract one beat from above phrase, so remaining beats are three
    [ 4 - 1 ( SUBTRACTED BEAT ) = 3 ( NEW PHRASE )  ]

[D1|T4|T8][tabla]
[melody end]

Step 2 :   Phrase is repeated three times so multiply this SUBTRACTED BEAT by 3. We get three beats in this case 
[ 1 ( SUBTRACTED BEAT )  *  3 = 3 ]

[1|1|1][lyrics]
[D1|T4|T8][tabla]
[melody end]

Step 3 :  Play three beats we got in STEP TWO &amp; continue Tihai with NEW PHRASE of three beats which we got in FIRST STEP,  keep the gap same

Lets derive second Tihai, this will help to clear your questions.

Step 1 :  Subtract two beats from above phrase, so remaining beats are two
    [ 4 - 2 ( SUBTRACTED BEAT ) = 2 ( NEW PHRASE )  ]

[melody end]

Step 2 :   Phrase is repeated three times so multiply this SUBTRACTED BEAT by 3. We get six beats in this case 
[ 2 ( SUBTRACTED BEAT )  *  3 = 6 ]

[1|2|1|2|1|2][lyrics]

Step 3 :  Play six beats we got in STEP TWO &amp; continue Tihai with NEW PHRASE of two beats which we got in the FIRST STEP, keep the gap same

Same logic we can apply to any known Tihai & interesting thing is that we can easily create & play Tihai which seems to be mathematically complex,  which just comes on sum and nowhere else :-)

You can also apply same logic to Chakradhar Tihais . . . .  :-)
